Reskinned Research
In addition to technical skills such as photography, website development, and working with textiles, one of the main skills I developed while working with Reskinned was the ability to pitch ideas in a professional and commercially informed way. This required a clear understanding of their brief and business model. Through the project, I also developed a deeper understanding of circular fashion and the scale of textile waste within the industry.

Project Scoping
We began by exploring how textiles could be used in less conventional ways, from making parachutes to reupholstering furniture. However, regardless of the approach, small fabric off-cuts were always left behind.
Project Development
We decided to shift our focus to these scraps. Our idea began to emerge around redefining the Reskinned business model — rather than restoring garments to their original state, we proposed celebrating imperfections instead of hiding them.
Refining Outcome
Our proposal was structured around three key elements. First, Reskinned would introduce an Off-Cuts line, creating new products from leftover materials, featured within an accompanying Off-Cuts magazine. Second, customers would be offered mending kits, encouraging skill-building and further personalisation of their purchases. Finally, Reskinned could sell curated off-cut boxes aimed at creators and textile students — mystery packs of surplus materials used to create new, limited pieces, with the opportunity to have selected works featured in the Off-Cuts magazine.

The Experience
Working with a well-established brand proved challenging, but through trend research and developing an understanding of mending techniques such as Sashiko, we were able to define a clear brief that bridged the gap between fashion and waste. Our proposal was informed by the investment of care model — a behavioural principle used by brands such as IKEA — where the act of mending and personal effort fosters emotional attachment to garments, encouraging long-term care and use.
